physicians and the local Red Cross offer the following precautions
to help you avoid heat exhaustion, dehydration, heatstroke and sunburn:
Drink Water:
At least 8 to 15 8-ounce glasses of water or fruit juice (with a
50% water-juice concentration) during the day.
Wear Cool
Fabrics: Natural fibers in cool colors work best. Wear a Wide-Brimmed
Hat or Cap.
Avoid Dark
Clothing: Dark clothing absorbs heat.
Pile on the
Sunscreen: A minimum SPF of 15 at least twice a day.
Shade Your
Eyes: UVA sunglasses.
Be Cautious:
If you take antihistamines or diuretics, they deplete your body
of fluids rapidly.
Avoid Excessive
Alcohol or Caffeine: These cause you to lose bodily fluids,
making you become dehydrated.
